Born in Ancona (Italy) in 1982, MICHELE SAMPAOLESI won in 2004 the First Prize and the Medal of the President of the Italian Republic in the XXI “PREMIO VENEZIA” Piano Competition in Venice's famous "La Fenice" Theatre. Critics heralded him as “An imaginative pianist” (Wolfsburger Nachrichten) and “A true virtuoso” (Il Gazzettino). He has appeared with leading orchestras such as Sanremo Symphony Orchestra, Pesaro Symphony Orchestra, “G.Rossini” Symphony Orchestra, i "Solisti di Perugia", etc. under the baton of important conductors, among which P. Bellugi, A. Zedda, F. Mondelci, R. Molinelli, M. Benzi, P. Ponziano Ciardi, L. Ferrara.
He recorded 4 CDs with works by Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Brahms and in 2003 he recorded a live performance of Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with the Pesaro Symphony Orchestra.
He won more than 20 Piano Competitions, among which International Piano Competition "Città di Senigallia” (1997), International Competition "Società Umanitaria" in Milan (1999), Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Music Competition (2002), International Piano Competition “F. Alfano” in Sanremo (2003), etc.
He was awarded the Meadows Artistic Scholarship Award (Dallas,Texas - U.S.A. 2004), the Yamaha Scholarship Award (Rellingen 2002), the Silio Taddei Scholarship - Rotary Club (Livorno 2004), the Fondazione Gioacchino Rossini Scholarship (Pesaro 2003), to name just a few.
Michele began his piano studies at the age of seven. He studied at the Pesaro Conservatory under Ettore Peretti and Giovanni Valentini, graduating cum laude in 2003 and in 2007 he received his Diploma Accademico di Secondo Livello (Piano) with the highest honours. At fourteen, he was admitted to the Accademia Pianistica “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola, where he studied with pianists such as A. Lonquich, L. Lortie, L. Berman, B. Petrushansky and where he graduated in 2006. In 2004, he received the Meadows Artistic Scholarship Award, allowing him to study under Joaquin Achucarro at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich under Elissò Virsaladze, where he earned his Concert Piano Diploma in 2010 "with special honours".
Alongside his academic studies, Michele Sampaolesi gained valuable inspiration from his work with Aldo Ciccolini at the “MusicaRivaFestival”(Italy), Dmitri Bashkirov at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg (Austria), Andrea Lucchesini at the Accademia di Musica in Pinerolo (Italy) and Joaquin Achucarro at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena (Italy).
He nurtures a special artistic interest in chamber music: since 2010 he is the pianist of TRIO DMITRIJ and from 2010 to 2012 he continued his preparation with the TRIO DI TRIESTE at the Scuola Superiore Internazionale di Musica da Camera del Trio di Trieste in Duino.
As pianist of Trio Dmitrij he performed in Italy and abroad and Trio Dmitrij's Live performances of Franz Liszt Complete Chamber Music was broadcast by italian radio RAI Radio3.
Piano Professor at the Conservatorio di Musica "G. B. Pergolesi" in Fermo and "G. Braga" in Teramo (I.M.P.), he is at present Piano Professor at the Conservatorio di Musica "Umberto Giordano" in Foggia and regularly gives Piano and Chamber Music Masterclasses at the Conservatorio Profesional de Musica "F.Guerrero" in Seville (Spain).
