Matteo Leone

Matteo Leone was born in Carbonia in September 1987. He lives and works in Cussorgia, part of the municipality of Calasetta.
Thanks to a family of musical tradition, he began his musical studies from an early age. After a period of one year of African life (in Nouakchott, Mauritania), he began his studies in percussions in the local marching band.
After graduating from the Istituto Alberghiero, he continues his musical journey in Bologna where he discovers jazz, with a propensity for the avant-garde. Later, when he returned to Sardinia, he enrolled at the Cagliari conservatory in jazz drums. In a crossroad in Sulcis, (and where if not?) He meets the devil to whom he sells the soul to learn to play the guitar. From that day he invests all his time in the study of the guitar and the blues. After a process of research of African American culture in all its facets, he feels the need to return to his origins. Africa and Calasetta. The Tabarchino, the language spoken in his village, makes it a frame.

"Scattered House Place" CD debut 2019

Release on February 2019, Scattered House Place is a debut album by Matteo Leone. Already half of the DON LEONE project (winners of the Italian Blues Challenge and guests of the 2018 edition of the SZIGET Festival) and very active in Sardinia with the most disparate projects, Matteo Leone arrives at the debut album after a thousand ups and downs. After recording the disc in Rome, the sound engineer escapes with the master and vanished into tin air. Matteo, obviously, has no backup of the album and everything evaporates like this, in nothing. What remains, however, is the feeling of having something good: the pieces work, they are beautiful and deserve to be fixed on tape. With the precious help of Enrico Sesselego and some of the best Sardinian musicians in circulation (Claudia Aru and Alessandro Cau, two names above all), Matteo Leone managed to complete the work, which began in 2015, and closed a record which seemed impossible to take home.
